Stephanie Clarkson-Beever is an experienced teacher in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
I work 1-to-1 via Zoom or in students’ homes in the Bicester area and support students from year 5 to year 11 who are following the UK National Curriculum. Tutoring can embed the key skills of English so that writing and reading well becomes second-nature. Sessions can be designed around entrance exams as well as working more specifically to study units.
Rates start at £30 per hour and include: a weekly session report, weekly homework assignments and regular progress checks. We progress as quickly as we can but as slow as we must.
*Group sessions may be possible if students are very similar in level and ability.

studying Creative Writing was an Early Passion
My love for the English writing began was I was 7. After falling in love with The Chronicles of Narnia, I begged my parents for a type-writer and began to write my first stories.
At 18, I studied Creative Writing, Media and Communication at Edge Hill University, followed by a Masters Degree in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. I went on to become a Youth Worker in an after-school learning charity for disadvantaged teens.
Training to Teach
In 2007, I won a place on Huddersfield University’s acclaimed teaching course and was awarded a ‘distinction’ for in my PGCE in Teaching English.
I trained at Tameside College, where I continued to work for 3 years, and taught 16-19 year olds and adult learners Functional Skills English. Through the college, I trained for the Trinity Certificate in English for Speakers of Other Languages, the highest level of qualification in the subject.
Moving to GCSE
At Barnsley College, I progressed to teach GCSE English and became a private tutor. During my time at Barnsley, the college was inspected by Ofsted and my class observation was graded ‘outstanding’ .
A break from Formal Education
in 2014, I took some time out to pursue self-employment, becoming a hypnotherapist and supporting young people and adults to overcome emotional barriers. During this time, I taught mindfulness and holistic therapies to adults and grew my long-term hobby businesses as an illustrator and singer.
A return to the (Virtual) Classroom
In 2020, I was approached by a friend to tutor Functional Skills English Level 2 and by word-of-mouth, I gained more students as well as beginning to work for a London-based, entrance exam agency.
Working for myself as an educator was both enjoyable and well received and by the Autumn of 2020, I’d made the decision to fully concentrate on Stephanie Clarkson Tutoring.
When I’m not in the Classroom
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy painting, writing songs on my guitar, learning French and enjoying my virtual-reality gaming headset. I aspire to pass on to learners a sense of life-long learning as an exciting voyage full of possibilities!
